Obedience

"Watch a puppy, any puppy, learning at his mother's knee. He'd give her the world to hear the right tone sung from high in her throat, to be allowed to cuddle, to be petted by her smooth tongue. Moreover, his motivation to learn is built in. There's a world he's dying to explore. There are things he'd like to know. He watches everything. He experiments. He tries and tries again to meet each challenge, to learn, to expand his world, his skills, his knowledge. Like any fledgling, his curiosity triggers learning. When there are no major temptations such as food rewrads to tug his mind away from the work at hand, he praises, himself, he feels good to have done something new, and to have done it right."

Classes

Puppy Primer

  • Learn to partner with your puppy through the distractions of other puppies in the room. Teach basic commands such as sit, down and come. Earn the respect of your puppy and learn to transfer that into your daily routine. Training isn't just about parlour tricks. One day it could save the life of your dog. Of course, nothing says it can't be fun for you and the puppy!

Puppy Advanced ~ prerequisite: Puppy Primer

  • Further the training of the puppy as his mind develops. Continue the basics and add in more life skills. Walking on the lead without pulling. Staying in a sit or down position for longer than a few seconds. Always coming enthusiastically when called. Make your puppy your pride and joy.

Basic

  • Focused on the older puppy and adult dog, this class is to further the training you started at home. Not intended for competition, this class continues to make your dog a well behaved member of your family. The basic commands are revisited and additional skills are added to challenge you and your dog.

Basic Advanced ~ prerequisite: Basic

  • Beyond the basics. Push the limits with longer stays, recalls through distractions, and even more. Come out of this course with the knowledge that you and your dog are a great team.

Competition Classes ~ Novice, Open, Utility

  • These classes are all about the preparation and polishing required to compete in Canadian Kennel Club and American Kennel Club obedience trials. No prerequisites required for Novice but it is recommended that any puppies progress through the Puppy Primer and Puppy Advanced for a solid start.
